Where Do You Want Us?

Harry Meadley and Sarah Oglesby provide a window into the marginalised community of female, nonbinary and trans skaters in Leeds with their new documentary, Where Do You Want Us?

The 14-minute film spotlights the experiences of female and minority gender skateboarders in the city, highlighting safety concerns at skateparks, street spots, and even just being in public with a skateboard. As well as amplifying the voices of Leeds locals such as Al Lovell, Minnie Mearnz, Ruby McMullen, Ro Elliott, Izzy Almond, Elsie Amies, Abi Townsend-Smith, Nyla and Zainab Nadeem, Where Do You Want Us? also covers last year's series of Civic Leeds events, spearheaded by Harry Meadley, which saw known spots around the city being taken over en masse for unprecedented sanctioned street skating sessions.

Please watch the film in full and read some more about the background of the project over on the Girls in Film website, and keep up to date with related developments and events over on the Civic Leeds Instagram!

If you've just moved to Leeds for university, or if you're interested in getting involved in the city's vibrant skate scene but aren’t sure where to start, reach out to Civic Leeds and they will gladly point you to the best sessions, parks, and spots to check out.
